About this stone: Blue Calcite

Blue calcite is a descriptive name for natural calcite (calcium carbonate, CaCO₃) with a blue colour; it is a colour variety, not a separate mineral species, and natural blue calcite is described as relatively rare. Its colour cause differs between deposits and remains debated: studies have linked it to defects from natural radiation, to transition metals such as iron, chromium, nickel and copper (Central Anatolia, Turkey), to copper in cave deposits and to trace elements in calcite from Madagascar.
