Garnet (green)

Green garnet is a color-based trade name for natural garnet, not a single mineral species. GIA names tsavorite and demantoid as green garnets: tsavorite is a green, chromium- and vanadium-bearing variety of grossular, and demantoid is the green to yellowish green variety of andradite. Other green grossulars, such as light "mint" garnet from Merelani, Tanzania, are also sold, while green uvarovite usually forms crystals too small to cut. A stone or bead sold as green garnet may therefore be any of these unless tested.
