About this stone: Nuummite

Nuummite is a natural metamorphic rock from the Nuuk region of West Greenland, made almost entirely of orthoamphiboles of the anthophyllite–gedrite series. Its grains consist of alternating submicroscopic lamellae of anthophyllite and gedrite, which produce iridescence in gold, blue, green and other colors on a gray to black ground when the stone is cut. Nuummite is a trade name, not an approved mineral name; it means "from Nuuk" in Greenlandic.
